BME Community Development in Mental Health Overivew
BME Community Development in Mental Health in Richmond upon Thames forms part of the national Delivering Race Equality in mental healthcare programme (more information on the DRE website). The DRE programme is a five year action plan that focuses on achieving equality and tackling discrimination in mental health services in England. Its aim is to address mental health inequalities for all people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds, including people of Irish or Mediterranean origin, traveller communities and East European migrants.
In Richmond, the BME Community Development Workers will work with all BME groups in Richmond upon Thames to raise awareness about mental health and mental health services in order to reduce stigma around mental health.
