The Vineyard Project Overview

The Vineyard Project is an open door drop-in centre in the basement of the Vineyard church. It is open every day in the week, and caters for a wide range of people with problems – homelessness, mental distress, substance abuse, or other problems experienced by those who feel socially excluded.

"I feel like a new man since coming to the Vineyard project"

The mission of the Vineyard Project is to provide a safe and welcoming drop-in centre; a place of refuge for those who are destitute and / or different, a place of resource for those with temporary distress, and a place of recovery for any who may be encouraged in overcoming their life difficulties.

Working in close co-operation with other service providers and statutory agencies our threefold strategy is to provide:

A place of refuge

We seek to provide a safe environment for those who are homeless, and offer facilities for washing clothes, showering, cheap refreshments, clothing, chiropody and help for rough sleeping; a warm place to sit or sleep during the daytime; or to enjoy companionship and social activity. Some who use the centre seek little more than this; others need help in surmounting their many problems.

A place of resource

We also seek to provide a stepping-stone for those encountering a crisis, such as homelessness, family breakdown, bereavement or unemployment, and those who want help in being rehabilitated back into a home, meaningful daytime activity and employment. Often such, these people are looking for short-term practical help with issues like benefits or legal advice (a solicitor visits regularly) and emotional support for  a few months, with signposting to other agencies, until their circumstances have stabilised and their needs are met.

A place of recovery

Lastly, we seek to provide a therapeutic environment for those who seek longer-term help in recovering more purposeful and meaningful lives. For these people the centre is a place for social interaction, acceptance, creativity and learning. This may lead to volunteering within the centre or elsewhere and/or pathways towards work or to support networks such as AA or NA groups, churches and other social networks in the area.

SPEAR outreach team are at the Vineyard drop-in every Monday and Thursday 9.30 – 12.30pm. More information on SPEAR here external link.
