The Richmond Wellbeing Service is part of the national Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) scheme. This scheme aims to provide therapies to people with common mental health problems.
Common Mental Health Problems include:
• Panic attacks
• Low mood
• Obsessive compulsive disorder
• Generalised anxiety (excessive worry)
• Post traumatic Stress Disorder
• Social anxiety
• Health anxiety
The Richmond Wellbeing Service is made up of three teams, one of which is based with Richmond Borough Mind. Richmond Borough Mind works in partnership with East London Foundation NHS Trust to provide the Richmond Wellbeing Service.
If you are having problems with feeling low, anxious or stressed and would like some help, you can access the service by calling 020 8548 5550, or by visiting your GP who can also refer you. There is no cost for this service. If you call us directly you will speak to an administrator who will take some information from you (such as your contact details and who you GP is). Following this you will be offered an assessment, usually over the phone. The purpose of this initial assessment is to find out which part of the service you will most likely benefit from. Together, you and your therapist will plan a programme of support and activities that have been shown to be effective and helpful.
The service works using the principles of stepped care. This means that after assessment the first treatment offered to people is the least restrictive, or the least intrusive on your life, but still likely to help significantly. If your GP is step 1 on the ladder, Richmond Borough Mind provides help at step 2. Most people coming to the Richmond Wellbeing Service will start at this step by attending our Introductory Session. Further support offered at this level includes courses and workshops and one-to-one guided self-help. If you are offered one-to-one support this may be provided face-to-face, over the phone or using programmes on the internet. Support at this level usually lasts for between 1-8 sessions. If you require further help after this you may progress to Step 3 of our service for some more intensive therapies. This Step 3 is provided by East London Foundation NHS Trust.
Workshops and group work have been identified as being a useful therapy. The Richmond Wellbeing Service offer a range of workshops and groups which people can attend. Some workshops are specific to a disorder, and others can help with a range of problems. The group courses consist of weekly 90-minute sessions for 6 weeks. While these groups can be very helpful, we respect that some people may not want to speak or share information about themselves with others. Because of this you will never be asked to speak in front of people, but if you do wish to ask questions or participate more interactively with the group there are opportunities to do so.

• Overcoming Worry
• Overcoming Panic
• Coping with Stress
There are also currently two kinds of one-off workshops which run for 90 minutes.
