What is Mental Health?

Mental illness is very common. About 1 in 4 people experience mental health problems during their lifetime. People with a mental illness can experience problems in the way they think, feel or behave. This can significantly affect their relationships, their work, and their quality of life. Having a mental illness is difficult, not only for the person concerned, but also for their family and friends.

Sometimes, talking about your feelings with family or friends, taking some light exercise or relaxation may help you feel better. Other times, it might be important to talk to someone individually about your feelings and experiences, such as a GP, counsellor or mental health professional.
