All our volunteers receive one-to-one support and can reclaim their travel and lunch expenses as part of our volunteering practices. 

Current Volunteer Roles 

Peer Volunteers

We are looking for individuals who wish to join our community of volunteers within the Peer Group Network at Richmond Borough Mind. The Peer Group Network is made up of support groups to help people who may be experience mental health issues within the borough. We offer a safe and non-judgemental space where members can make friends, have fun and learn new skills. The groups can be key to supporting members in their journey to recovery. 

We are looking to add a small number of volunteers to help co-facilitate peer support groups for adults (aged 18+) at venues throughout the Richmond Borough. The role requires someone who is a dependable and reliable individual who can use their own experience to help support Richmond Upon Thames residents through potentially difficult periods of their life. The role requires you to have a good level of communication, and you must be confident is raising any queries or issues you may have with the Peer Group Network Manager.

Deadline for applications is 7 September 2018.

Training will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays for 3 weeks at the end of September.

Volunteer Youth Wellbeing Trainers

We are recruiting for new Youth Wellbeing Volunteers to join our exciting, award-winning youth wellbeing projects.

RB Mind’s youth services provide innovative workshops to young people aged 8-14 and 14-25, designed to increase understanding of emotional wellbeing and build resilience through practical tools such as Mindfulness and the 5 Ways to Wellbeing. 

We’re seeking new recruits to join our wonderful team of workshop facilitators. We offer full training in presentation skills and knowledge of wellbeing and resilience in young people, along with ongoing coaching and support.

If you are aged 18-30*, and have personal experience of mental health difficulties which you’d like to use to positively impact the wellbeing of young people across Richmond Borough, we’d LOVE to hear from you!

Wellbeing Centre Gardening Volunteer

The purpose of this role is to help to maintain a small garden which is central to our Wellbeing Centre, and to support and enable individuals with lived experience of mental ill health to participate in gardening activities.

HOURS:  Mondays 2-4pm, every week if possible (once per fortnight considered). 

BASED AT: 32 Hampton Road, Twickenham, TW2 5QB

Duties can include preparing and maintaining raised beds with a variety of new and established plants, planting and maintaining a small kitchen garden with help from service users and facilitating a weekly small activity group for service users with a gardening theme.

Carers Activities Volunteer

RB Mind’s Carers in Mind project supports the mental wellbeing of families and friends supporting someone experiencing a mental health issue. The project delivers a variety of services including one-to-one advice and guidance, peer-led support groups, complementary therapies and social activities. This role supports the team by working in partnership with them to organise and deliver a programme of social activities. Training, support and ongoing supervision is provided.

HOURS:  Two days per month; exact hours by agreement.  May include occasional evenings depending on availability of volunteer.

BASED AT: Richmond Mind Carers, The Maddison Centre, 140 Church Road, Teddington TW11 8QL.

Duties can include supporting the Carers in Mind Team to plan and deliver a programme of social activities, suggesting new activities to include in the programme and completing administration relating to the social activities programme.

Finance Volunteer

This role involves helping the Finance team maintain accurate and timely financial accounts and reports, using accounting software. Training, support and ongoing supervision is provided. 

HOURS:  Two to four hours a week, as required. 

BASED AT:   Richmond Borough Mind Support Office, Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College Annex, Parkshot, Richmond, TW9 2RE, or other office within the Borough.

Duties can include keeping the accounting software, Sage, up to date with transactions; setting up of new suppliers and customers; entering petty cash transactions, bank transfers and transactions, and bank reconciliations; and updating spreadsheets.

Community Fundraising and Events Planning Volunteer

Richmond Borough Mind organises a number of fundraising activities that aim to raise money and awareness of our charity. Volunteers help with a variety of fundraising events. This role involves liaising with other volunteers, service leads and event organisers to ensure upcoming events are successful. 

Our events include stalls at summer fairs, fundraising evenings such as quiz nights, family all-day events and mental health awareness (MHA) events such as MHA week, World Mental Health Day and Time to Talk Day. 

HOURS:  Flexible – to be agreed with the volunteer manager. 

BASED AT:  Combination of home and office based tasks (at RB Mind, The Annex, Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College, Parkshot, Richmond, TW9 2RE). Plus events around the borough of Richmond.

Duties can include gathering information such as dates, times, locations and practical information about events; liaising with RB Mind events volunteers and booking those available to help with events; and assisting with the running of events including setting up and packing away.

Fundraising Volunteer 

This role involves supporting the development and delivery of RB Mind’s Fundraising Strategy at a time we are exploring new fundraising opportunities from a variety of sources. Volunteers will contribute to work undertaken with the corporate sector, Trusts and Foundations and individual giving.

HOURS: One half day per week on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. 

BASED AT: Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College Annex, Parkshot, Richmond, TW9 2RE. 

Duties can include researching and identifying local businesses and organisations with which RB Mind could build a relationship and completing a dossier on findings and key facts; using databases to research Trusts and Foundations suitable for different services and log findings on funding sources spreadsheet; assisting in collating testimonials and evidence on service output and outcomes; and supporting the writing and preparation of funding bids.

Admin Volunteer

This role involves providing valuable administrative support to RB Mind’s service leads.

HOURS: Times as per availability

BASED AT:  one of RB Mind’s sites which include: 

  • 32 Hampton Road, Twickenham TW2 5QB
  • Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College, TW9 2RE 
  • The Maddison Centre, 140 Church Road, Teddington, TW11 8QL

Duties can include typing up and formatting documents, using Excel spreadsheets, entering monitoring data into online databases and sending correspondence via post and email.

Volunteer Film Maker

This role involves creating and producing promotional videos of our services for use on our website, YouTube channel and other social media.

HOURS: As and when required. 

BASED AT: 32 Hampton Road, Twickenham TW2 5QB and around the borough as required.

Duties can include travelling throughout the borough to film events and activities; filming interviews of our service users, volunteers and staff; editing and producing filmed footage; and filming day-to-day activities within our services.
